There is still time to register your Crime Prevention Month activities to receive free resources for your event from our national Celebrate Safe Communities (CSC) Initiative. CSC was launched in 2008 by the National Crime Prevention Council, in partnership with the National Sheriff’s Association, and the Bureau of Justice Assistance.
Celebrate Safe Communities provides FREE resources and support for local crime prevention efforts. It is a time to spotlight local safety initiatives, and a time to motivate, inspire, and join others locally and nationally to create year-round support for prevention activities that help keep communities safe from crime.
Each year, law enforcement agencies, citizens, community groups, and government agencies join together in October for Crime Prevention Month. Whether your community has been hit by a new crime trend or mortgage foreclosure, or your block club or neighborhood watch program needs revitalizing, planning a safety event this October for Crime Prevention Month is a great way to keep your community safe, meet new partners, and make a difference in your community.
Your event does not have to be in October to participate in Celebrate Safe Communities. Whether you are cleaning up a park in September, planning a youth violence prevention march in the fall, or offering holiday safety workshops in December, Celebrate Safe Communities is for you. Go to www.celebratesafecommunities.org to get ideas from sites across the country or to register your event. You will receive resources for your law enforcement agency, join our email news list to receive information about training opportunities and resources year-round, and also receive specialty items to hand out at your event.
Check out our full list of incentives under Tools at www.celebratesafecommunities.org. Take a moment to sign up for our NEW Chat Forum to ask questions of crime prevention practitioners from around the country, or download resources and logos from our site to use at your event or on-going crime prevention efforts.
Did you know that McGruff the Crime Dog turned 30 in July? We’ve added McGruff’s 30th anniversary logo to our site so that you can make your event a celebration of McGruff’s anniversary. See ourlist of 30 ideas for your event or share your story with NCPC about how you celebrated McGruff’s birthday.
The time to act is now. Safe communities are no accident and take all of us working together every day of the year.
