There seems to be a program for nearly everything these days. As we continue to develop programs for schools, community centers, and youth-focused organizations, we stop and wonder if any of these programs are actually working. A new research study funded by the Department of Justice conducted research on anti-bullying programs in schools to see if they are, in fact, having a positive effect on youth.

The findings from this research support the idea that anti-bullying programs in schools and other organizations are working. Children not only are getting the message that bullying is a serious and hurtful act but also are learning to respect one another. While this report may tell us that bullying is still happening among children, it brings hope that anti-bullying programs will have continued success.
Though this study may be limited to examining the effects of anti-bullying programs on physical bullying, we can hope that anti-cyberbullying programs will closely mirror this success. New resources and programs are being developed to address the issue of cyberbullying. To view what steps NCPC is taking to prevent cyberbullying visit http://www.ncpc.org/topics/cyberbullying.
